Be happy not Miserables
A huge new production of the musical, Les Miserables is to be made and staged at the O2 Arena (formally the Millennium Dome in East London) in October.
Three versions of the show will be produced to mark its 25th anniversary and the O2 version will star comedian Matt Lucas as Thenardier, famous for his TV show Little Britain.
This will be a major role for Lucas since it will be his first stage role for him since he lost his former partner, Kevin McGee and pulled out of the West End play Prick Up Your Ears.
Les Miserables is currently at the Queen’s theatre in London’s Shaftesbury Avenue, W1 and is acclaimed by critics and fans and has broken box office records across the country.
When it runs in the O2 it will be the first time anywhere in the world that three productions of the same musical are playing in the same city.
It’s the worlds longest running musical and has been performed since 1985 and staged in the Barbican, the Queens Theatre and the Palace Theatre. This year the show celebrated its 10,000th performance, and has been seen by 56 million people worldwide.
