Come on everybody clap your hands!
Singer Tony Christie (67) makes his West End stage debut as he stars in the smash-hit musical ‘Dreamboats and Petticoats’ in London’s Playhouse theatre from Monday 5th July.
The veteran crooner Tony Christie (67) famous for the original version of “Is This the Way to Amarillo” will star as both Bobbys father, ‘Phil’ and older son roles.
It contains music from the 50’s and early 60’s and was inspired by the million selling album of the same name. Tony has been a long term fan of artists such as Phil Spector, Roy Orbison and Marty Wilde so the role is expected to suit him well. Plus as a special treat for Christie fans a rendition of his chart-topping single, “Is this the way to Amarillo”, has been specially added for his run of the show.
What’s it about – In 1961 emotions run high as talented young musicians Norman and Bobby compete to win the hearts of their adoring female fans – and more importantly, the gorgeous Laura. But when Laura shows that she’s no slouch with the guitar, rock’n'roll fame beckons.
And you’ve guessed it, as a cash in, they have also released a new album in the series, Dreamboats and Petticoats Summer Holidays. Another compilation of nostalgic tunes from the same era.
