I’ve Got Time!
If you travel around world’s major cities you may have marvelled at their pedestrian crossing signals. In addition to displaying a red for don’t walk and a green, walk sign they also show a counter. This counter counts down from 10 to 0 and gives an indication of the time between the red and green lights.
The purpose is to reduce the number of accidents caused by rushing pedestrians who attempt to cross just as the lights are about to change.
Due to their success across Europe London is trailing the new pedestrian crossings at eight London junctions, including the busy Oxford Circus in the West End.
We think these will be a great improvement. One, as a pedestrian, since this will take the guess work out of crossing the road and two as a frequent cab passenger.
